Sinus Lift

If you are receiving a dental implant in your upper jaw, our dentists may recommend a sinus lift to ensure your teeth and implant have the support they need to remain stable.

What Is A Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift, also known as a sinus augmentation, is a type of bone grafting procedure used in the upper jaw. This procedure is recommended when there is not enough bone in the upper jaw in the area of the molars and premolars to enable successful implant placement. Sinus lifts are typically needed when the loss of a tooth has caused the bone in that area to resorb, or shrink.

What Happens During A Sinus Lift?

When you receive a sinus lift, our periodontist will gently lift the sinus membrane and push it up and away from your jaw. Bone grafting material is then added to the area of the sinus to strengthen your bone structure in that area. There is typically a four to nine month healing time after this procedure so that your grafted and natural bone can integrate and grow together. After this healing period, a dental implant can then be placed.
